CD/DVD: How We Do It
{ what we do } { how we do it } { who we've done it for }
Because each interactive application is unique, Digital Lagoon begins each project by focusing on client needs. By learning about your business and goals, we can develop a product that achieves your goals. We have all the expertise and specialists to complete the project on staff: writers, photographers, videographers, artists, graphic designers, editors, technicians and computer programmers.
Our Process
For most CD/DVD projects, Digital Lagoon utilizes a five-step process that incorporates five phases: discovery, pre-production, production, content testing and beta testing. The process starts with the client's needs and ends with careful testing for "bugs" and technical imperfections and production and final testing in the specified optical-digital media format.
- Discovery: In the collaborative discovery sessions, we gather the information to determine the project mission, details and fundamental design concept. We aim to capture business and marketing strategies, user provisions, and business and technical strategies involved in the project, including where and on what equipment the resulting CD/DVD will be played, target audience, desired results and project scope.
- Pre-Production: During pre-production, both functional and graphic mock-up applications are developed to determine content placement and basic navigation. The purpose of the mock-ups is to finalize all layouts, content and design decisions before programming begins. This is done to ensure that the development strategies determined during the discovery phase accurately represent how the users will actually interact with the program.
- Production: Working from the approved mock-ups allows for an efficient, focused period in which to assemble the main application. The creative concept is in the past, and client-driven additions or changes are in the future. This is "nuts and bolts" time to deliver a properly programmed product that faithfully reproduces the creative work and functions as required.
- Content Testing: Content testing allows for any final issues to be determined before completion of the project. A period of time will be defined for client approvals and final changes to be submitted for the site. These changes should be minimal as approvals of content, navigation, and basic look and feel were completed during pre-production. It is important that all changes be completed and approved before moving into beta testing.
- Beta (Bug) Testing: Potentially the most important part of the process, Beta Testing assures that the application runs properly according to the project's original specifications, including operation within a variety of platforms. Digital Lagoon will test the application on multiple machines and operating systems.
- Implementation/Deployment/User Training: Upon completion, Digital Lagoon will deliver the application in the appropriate specified format and ensure it is operating correctly. On-site training is conducted with the user administration group as prescribed in the original specifications as pre-determined during the Discovery Phase.
Each multimedia application includes an interactive graphic interface that must be easy to navigate and visually interesting. Digital Lagoon's award-winning graphic designers create eye-catching layouts that spark interest in information contained within the application. This design theme is used throughout the interface, disk face and packaging to enhance the professionalism of the presentation.
Digital Lagoon is committed to staying on top of the latest multimedia techniques and technologies in order to deliver the most state of the art interactive media to our clients.
