Web Site Development and Design: What We Do
{ what we do } { how we do it } { who we've done it for }
Web Hosting Services
Once the site is up and running, it's critical to keep it available to customers. Digital Lagoon operates a dedicated Windows 2000 server for their hosting clients. This allows for faster access to information and services as well as providing greater flexibility and security management. Five critical aspects of Web hosting are guaranteed for providing maximum uptime: network connectivity, power redundancy, hardware, security, and data backup.
Our servers reside behind a Cisco Pix firewall ensuring security from external intrusion and extended protection through advanced traffic monitoring. Only authorized Digital Lagoon technicians may gain physical access to the servers that are kept under 24/7 video surveillance.
Our hosting service includes the following items not normally available with typical ISP hosting plans:
- Tier-1 redundant, diverse and load-balanced Internet uplinks to the global networks of AT&T, Williams Fiber, Cogent, and Sprint via high-speed fiber delivering high availability.
- Multiple OC3 and OC12 lines delivering over 622 megabits of bandwidth per second, or the equivalent of over 300 T-1 lines.
- Impeccable customer service: we are always available to take your calls if you have a technical issue. This is very unique as many ISP helpdesks are notorious for their lengthy periods of telephone hold time.
- Unlimited custom configuration of email, FTP, SSL, password protection, etc.
- Fully redundant power, including dual Battery back-up plus an on-premise diesel generator with 600 gallons of fuel on board ensuring several days of standby power to the Internet Data Hosting Center.
- For added reliability and security, all Web site data is backed up to a NAS storage device and backed up to tape for off-site storage.
- Detailed and customized Web traffic reports utilizing WebTrends.
What is a tier 1 provider?
An ISP that gets their Internet connection directly from an Internet backbone provider such as Sprint, AT&T or UUNet.
Do clients have to pay to have their site moved?
We will move any client that signs up for a one-year contract to our server for free, with some exceptions. Special considerations include but are not limited to:
- Sites authored in FrontPage or Net Objects Fusion
- Sites with databases or CGI programs
What happens if a client exceeds their allowed server storage space?
Additional server space and bandwidth are available for minimal fees.
What is a DS3?
A communication line with very large bandwidth. DS stands for "digital signal level" and is sometimes referred to as T (i.e. T1 or T3) for "telecommunications." Most small ISPs have one or two DS1 lines. Our provider has four DS3s. The following chart compares the bandwidth of a phone line, ISDN, DS1 and DS3: |
